At capacity. Now what?

"Our center was at capacity and we either had to put more capital and time into developing a new center or find a partner that would shoulder the responsibility and provide a portion of the capital. NSC brought capital and knowledge along with a can-do attitude to our center."
Michael Bertino, M.D

The Project
The Specialty Surgery Center ("SSC") in San Antonio, Texas, was a very successful center when it joined National Surgical Care (“NSC”). The two operating room, physician-owned facility was nearing capacity and needed to expand to meet the needs of its physician partners. The physicians were faced with a decision of how to develop a new center to accommodate the growth in the marketplace. The choices included raising capital to build a new facility on their own, or finding a partner to help facilitate a new center. The physicians chose NSC as their corporate partner to facilitate the development of the new center and provide ongoing management resources.

The Benefits
NSC brought capital strength and development leadership to the project, allowing the physicians to focus on growing their medical practice. The center continues to see an increase in case volume, and the physicians are partners in both the business and the surgery center real estate.

The New Center
NSC directed the development of a new five operating room surgical center, which opened in November 2005. The multi-specialty center performs ophthalmology, otolaryngology, pain management and podiatry cases. The new center provided capacity for case growth resulting in a 30 percent increase in the first full year of operations and the opportunity to accommodate future growth.

"The finished product is beautiful, and we are now able to book all of our cases at the surgery center,” says Robert Snip, M.D. “We are very pleased with the resources provided by NSC in developing and operating the new Specialty Surgery Center."
